Follow-Up by Jeremy Small, Annual Meeting Chair

The PMA held its annual meeting from May 11th – 13th at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. This was a beautiful venue for all attendees to enjoy this year’s theme: “Creative Solutions: New Materials & Strong Designs.”

We would like to thank all the people who filled out a survey form on the meeting. We received responses from about half the attendees which is outstanding. This is your meeting and your feedback is critical. From what we are reading, everyone found the annual meeting to be very rewarding.

We kicked things off with the new members’ reception. This was a great opportunity for our new members to introduce themselves and make new connections. Our membership growth committee was very active this year, with 22 new members and 14 companies joining us in Phoenix, making this a highly attended event.

The evening was concluded with the Western Welcome Reception. By all accounts, people had a great time; they liked the food and entertainment. It was a great place to network and enjoy the evening. Ye Ha!

Garrett Dietz was the key note speaker and 90% of the responders said they walked away with a new understanding on how to launch new ideas with his “Voice of the Product” which fit right in with the meeting theme. The failed parts competition was also a large success with a lot of active participation for those willing to show off their urethane know-how. This was the first time for this competition and the technical committee deserves a lot of thanks for pulling this crowd pleasing competition together and we look forward to seeing it again.

We had six very good technical presentations. We have been asked to try and reduce that to just four presenters so that all presenters can have an opportunity for more audience engagement. As in the past, the regulatory meeting was well attended and everyone came away with new knowledge. At the top of the list were MbOCA issues and isocyanate regulations along with REACH and CARMA. This year we tried something different and also offered some side meetings during the regulatory time slot and all three speakers received high marks.

We had sixteen companies participate in the Supplier Showcase. The ratings were high and people seem happy that we will offer this every year. The ice cream was also a big hit. On Saturday and Sunday, we offered the Processing Techniques Seminar. This is offered every other year and received high marks for helping new folks better understand how to control and process high quality urethane parts. The golf tournament was also well attended. This is a great charity and we would encourage everyone to check out the John Jarvis Foundation.

Again, we thank everyone for attending and providing their feedback. We will try to take all comments into consideration to make the Annual Meeting as valuable as possible. It is never too late to send in suggestions or ideas on how we can improve our meetings! Looking forward to seeing everyone again in Charlotte next year!
